A state of the city address by Mayor John Rodriguez at the Holiday Inn Tuesday at noon, June 17, 2008. The event was organized by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce and indicated highlights of the progress of the city's economy and cultural scene as well as the challenges being faced in terms of infrastructure (roads and community sports and arts facilities). Finally, the mayor noted the accomplishments of a variety of residents to enriching the fabric of the city.

Two days after nearly 700 Xstrata Nickel employees were laid off, hundreds of members of Sudbury Mine Mill & Smelter Workers Union Local 598/CAW showed up to a union meeting Wednesday night demanding answers about this unexpected hit.
