A FEW DEADLY FACTS ABOUT OUR GROTESQUELY-GREAT METAL BAND, OTHERWISE KNOWN, AS THE ALMIGHTY "CATHARCYST". 1997, on a damp, cold, dark, day in Lively, Ontario, Canada, and deep within the woods of the Northern Hemisphere, this butchered and beaten band was born to wreak havoc and bang heads. Ah. .... the good ol' days when emo music didn't exsist and you could smoke in bars. They were known around town as the very deadly but distinguished "Diversity". After some dreadful departures in 1999, and the new gathering of souls, "Diversity" disposed of their sick ridden name and became the ever so popular and stimulating, "State Of Aggression". "SOA" released their first and only gastly record in the Y2K rigged year of 2000 entitled "Utopia Is Humanless". The classic, crushing 6 song, plus bonus track masterpiece, was recorded,mixed and mastered at Easter Island Studios in Sudbury. Things were definetly blood-suckingly smooth for the band. They ravaged everywhere and played anyplace including Manitoulin Island, Canada. In 2002, a member decided to end his role in the band, and end his era of terror. The band now consisted of Paul Cipriani (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Bill Moores (guitar, vocals, keyboards, didgeridoo), Joel Ferris (bass & effects) and Jay Maloney (Drums & Percussion). Paul Cipriani dialed up the name "CATHARCYST". The band "Catharcyst" is defined as what ever you want to define it as. We don't believe in putting a label on our brand of music. Anything goes. The word "Catharcyst" comes from two root words actually, Catharsis & Cyst. Catharsis is defined as the purging of emotions or relieving of emotional tensions, especially through a work of art. It is also defined as purgation. Cyst is defined as an abnormal saclike growth of the body in which matter is contained. Put it all together, and you have one ferocious sac of metal brilliance, waiting to explode onto the forefront of the music scene and on stage. "Catharcyst" put out their first ravishing record in 2004. It was entitled, "Feast On The Flesh". They self-produced, mixed, mastered, and manufactured copies of the 11 song disc. They played numerous nullifying performances,including speading their plague in terrorized towns and cities such as Toronto, North Bay, Sturgeon Falls and of course The Greater City Of Sudbury. In early 2006, a vital piece of the core (Bill Moores) left the band to pursue other musical interests. In the summer of 2007, another vital piece of the band left (Joel Ferris). Never the less, "Catharcyst" is still going strong in 2008, 11 years after they blazed onto the scene. A new record will be coming out in 2008 entitled - "A Purgative Bondage". They will be recording with Sudbury industrial metal legend "d3fuNcT", who has recently joined the band as the new bass player. Catharcyst will be self producing, mixing, mastering and duplicating "A Purgative Bondage". Stay tuned, there's still a hell of a lot more to come from this hellacious metal band.
